The unicast video-over-MPEG market includes MPEG-based digital cable services
such as video-on-demand, network DVR, switched digital video, interactive gaming,
and interactive TV. The television viewing trend is evolving to become completely
on-demand and interactive. The common thread for all these services is that they
require very high edge bandwidth. The edge device providing the digital bandwidth
for MPEG-based unicast video traffic today is the simple Edge-QAM. The Casa
C10G and C100G CMTSs can be used as a higher density and lower cost replacement of the
simple Edge-QAM. The C10G and C100G can be upgraded to support IP service when the
edge network needs to migrate to all-IP. Deploying the C10G not only gives the
MSOs initial capital savings, but also gives them investment protection.
